Church Saves Man's Life

 Church Saves Man's Life

News Commentator Paul Harvey told the story of a 73-year-old man who was driving his farm tractor when it turned over on him. He was pinned underneath his tractor for four days and nights in a driving rain and severe storm. When some of his friends hadn't seen him for a few days, they became concerned and went to see about him. Fortunately, they got to him just in time. He survived, but lost one of his legs below the knee.

Newspapers reported the incident, and expressed amazement that a man of his age could live after being pinned underneath a tractor for four days and nights in such terrible weather.

What is also amazing is the reason the man's friends went to check on him. "He missed prayer meeting on Wednesday night," one of his friends reported. Just missing one service at his church caused his friends to be concerned enough to check up on him. Can anyone doubt that this man's faithfulness in attending church saved his life?

Sermons on TV

That's a touching story, but is going to church really all that important? I mean, isn't God with us no matter where we are? And can't we worship God anywhere? You can get very good, if not better, sermons on TV, while saving a lot on gasoline.

Notice what the Scriptures say about the importance of attending church: "Some people have gotten out of the habit of meeting for worship, but we must not do that. We should keep on encouraging each other, especially since you know that the day of the Lord's coming is getting closer" (Hebrews 10:25).

You see, church attendance is more than a spectator sport. We're all social beings. And God knew that we needed fellowship and association with others who are seeking God. This is one reason why He established the church.

Try it. You'll like it. Plus, it could save your life!
